• Sport has the power to transform young lives.
• Too many young people in the UK live in fear because of gangs and weapons; too many young people lack mentors & constructive activities to fire their passion and ambition; and too many young people lead lifestyles that will cause serious health problems. The cost in human and economic terms is enormous.
• Sport is a proven means of engaging young people, providing mentors, helping develop life skills and the basis for good health.
• Despite improvements in school sports, there is a striking lack of quality community-based sports opportunities for young people, particularly in more deprived areas where problems are most acute, and sports club volunteers are often isolated and lack support.
